MY STORY
I'm Dr. Marissa Neuman, and I'd love to tell you how I found Chinese Medicine. Growing up, I struggled with eczema, indigestion, and debilitatingly painful periods. It wasn't until my early 20s that I was formally diagnosed with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), Celiac, and PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). I was on a regiment of regular cortisone shots and birth control. But these drugs only silenced the symptoms until they would violently erupt. I knew I couldn't spend the rest of my life on these medications, so I searched for answers elsewhere.
I had done all the 'things' everyone tells you to do - get eight hours of sleep, exercise daily, and eliminate sugar and processed food. While I certainly noticed a difference in my health after removing these inflammatory triggers, I was still covered in eczema head to toe and experiencing systemic flares regularly.
I felt frustrated and resigned to a life that always involved being itchy, in pain, and running to the bathroom. That was until I found Chinese Medicine and my life radically improved.
I had zero clue what I was getting myself into, but I was ready to try anything new. I got acupuncture weekly and was prescribed a sequence of herbal formulas. After about six months, I was eczema and itch-free for the first time in 25 years. After continued commitment to taking the medicine, I no longer had to run to the bathroom, the spasms in my abdomen disappeared, and I could finally function and go to work while on my period.
Nearly a decade later, I am happy to report that Chinese Medicine helped me achieve a baseline of health that I never thought was possible. As with all autoimmune diseases, I have occasional flare-ups, especially when I'm not careful with my diet, but I can quickly mend my symptoms with a few doses of herbs.
If you or someone you know suffers from chronic pain, autoimmune diseases, or 'mysterious' symptoms conventional doctors can't resolve, please know there are no lost causes. Chinese medicine can help.
